The glossary
of The Everlight Protocol series
Welcome to the official glossary for The Everlight Protocol web serial story. Because the story is ongoing, this glossary is not yet comprehensive; you can expect to find terms added over time, deepening the lore of the R-39 system. If you’re reading the story and think a term might have been missed or should be added to this list, send Esra a transmission via the Ghost Relay Uplink.
Ilthari
Alien beings of metal and magic from various galaxies across the cosmos. Sometimes they are also referred to as the Eldrikar or Eldren Navigators (in Solisgalde) and Divine Sentinels (Rim).
Cosmari
Starborn humans who traveled lightyears into deep space and were granted sanctuary among the Ilthari of the R-39 galaxy. Usually a term used among the 11 Pillars and the Eldrikar. But over time, each of these groups of peoples took on distinct names, depending where they settled. For example: those on Arboros are known as Astralans and those on Galene are Galeni. On Duskra, one is Duskran. Tenebris = Tenebrae. Sollustre = Soli. Each planet also has further names for diverse culture groups, though there are too many to list here.
Astral Veil Empire
A militaristic imperium that values tecnology and science, and restricts its use of Flux Arcana magic. The emperor is chosen by the Oracles of Aisil, who act as influential advisors to the imperial throne. The emperor oversees nations that have joined the Solisglade Colonies Coalition (SCC) through Knight Masters, the equivalent of nobles granted leadership rights over particular regions that have agreed to be allied with the Astral Veil Empire. Thus, those under the empire are referred to as federations or “coalition colonies”. The Astral Veil has a history of imperialism and invasions, and they were previously known as the Astaris Empire, but after the Astaris War, in which they attacked cities in the Solisglade that clung to their Ilthari despite galaxy-wide agreement to sever ties, they changed their names to match their new pursuits of peace.
Oracles of Aisil
A powerful political and social force that advises the Astral Veil Empire and shapes the memories of the Citizens of Solisglade. They strongly oppose the use of Flux Arcana beyond basic necessity, believing that it is a corrosive magic that leads to cellular mutations that further alienate the citizens from their human roots. The Oracles of Aisil are oathsworn to protect the Solisglade from Ilthari influence, and they control much of what the empire understands about its own history. Therefore, they have a major role in choosing who sits on the imperial throne and keeping a firm hand on the Knight Scholars of the system, who have a tendency to question history.
Solisglade
The big spiral of the R-39 system, in which the Core Worlds reside. Suns are powerful enough to light most of the worlds, making them more easily colonized.
The Rim
The small spiral of the R-39 system, in which the Edge Worlds reside, and connected to the Solisglade by the Driftgard Veil. The term “Edge Worlds” is a bit misleading, as these worlds encircle their own dual suns, but they are called such because of how far they reside beyond the Solisglade.
Driftgard Veil
A circumstellar disk of celestial fragments and cosmic storms that enshroud the Rim. Known to shift and collapse, and extremely dangerous to traverse.
Eidralis (EYE-drah-liss)
To weave or bind the flow of time; an eternity woven; a binding cycle. On Tenebris, this is the name for their beloved aftercycle, where souls are housed before rebirth through the bioforge.
Aethre (Aye-truh)
A magitech device that ascends essence into the Eidralis.
Omnis Reliquary
A crystal fragment said to contain the entire recorded history of the R-39 galaxy. Having been lost over the centuries, it is now more legend than fact.
Silventhriel Path
A sacred order of ethereal-blessed paladins sworn to protect the Ilthari and the Flux Arcana cycle. Prior to the Astaris War, only 11 ethereal-blessed were thought to remain in the R-39 galaxy. In the current cosmate 8527, the number of pillars is unknown. But the story begins with Hael Astraeus, who is the 5th Pillar of the Silvrenthriel Path, a duty he inherited from his father after the fall of Aurora Noctis.
Liadarë (LEE-uh-dah-ray)
Songs of Eternal Light that contain the essence of Tenebris.
Elydrenn (El-ih-dren)
Songs of Lamentation (tied to beauty and sorrow of life), tied to the aftercycle rituals on Icariel.
Elderkin
This is a familial term on Tenebris that refers to older siblings and elder blood ties. In Aurora Noctis specifically, it can sometimes be used to refer to loved ones and respected ones alike, regardless of blood ties or root (where one comes from, the essence of one). Icariel has a similar term, “Vankir Kin”, but this term diverges from the Tenebris origin to mean “the one beloved by the people” and “the chosen beloved.” It’s used to refer to relationships between a person and others, not that person and oneself. It’s less personal. When used with Steeltalon, Hael is acknowledging that Steeltalon holds an esteemed place among his people in Baleth. As someone who embodies their ideals.
The Fractal Wilds
A bioluminescent forest that runs along the River of Sivre and the Cascades of Callinor. It sits between Aurora Noctis (to the south), Mystirin (to the west), and Callinor (to the east).
Eldrikari Construct
This refers to any structure designed or built by the Ilthari, but in The Everlight Protocol: Engines of Eternity, it is specifically used to refer to a network of towering obelisks scattered throughout the R-39 galaxy.
